The Healthier Futures team was proud to host a group of students from Crewe Engineering and Design UTC.

Over three immersive days in March, the 15 Year 12 students took part in a real-time research project, exploring how active travel can be integrated into the design of new hospitals.

Their experience included analysing international best practices, conducting design reviews, a site tour, and a cost workshop.

This culminated in a final presentation to Chris Knights, Programme Director for Healthier Futures.

Reflecting on their work, Chris sad: “The students were inspiring. The quality of their ideas and ability to work within real project constraints was incredibly impressive.”

Shona Tomkinson, Careers Advisor at Crewe UTC, added: “This was a life changing experience. Our students left with a much clearer sense of direction for their future careers.”

This ambitious programme was developed and delivered in partnership with Akerlof (Social Value Partner), Gleeds (Programme Management), Ryder Architecture (Architects), and WT Partnership (Cost Advisors), demonstrating their strong commitment to social value.

Our long-term goal is to reach 20,000 young people, enriching Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) education and shaping the future workforce.
